Puerto Varas is located in front of Lago Llanquihue, the second largest lake in Chile and the third largest natural lake in South America. The city of Puerto Varas (named to honor the Minister of Interior of President M. Mont, D. Antonio Varas, both intellectual mentors of the colonization), was founded as the center of the lake navigation and exit port for the commerce to Puerto Montt, is today a prosperous city with its streets full of roses, giving it with justice, the name of City of Roses "Ciudad de las Rosas".
