Located 1.044 km south of Santiago, capital city of the X Región (Región de los Lagos), founded in 1853, at the coast by D. Vicente Pérez Rosales with German immigrants coming to colonize the province of Llanquihue.

Until 1912 and with the opening of the train line from Santiago, (more than 1,000 km and a trip of more than 26 hours), the city was transformed into the exit port to the territories of Chiloé, Aysen and Magallanes. Angelmó turned into the main port where the crafts from the islands were shipped, starting the current Art Fair of Angelmó.

The city has grown fast, mostly because of more than 30 fishing and processing industries and lumber companies. New hotels, restaurants, cafés and commerce have revitalized the urban life.
