Ancud

Located in the Large Island of Chiloé Isla Grande de Chiloé, Ancud was founded as a fortress to protect the ships crossing the Cape Hornos Cabo de Hornos, becoming one of the most formidable Plazas-fuertes of the South Pacific and the base of Chile's expansion to the south.

Today it is considered an important commercial city and center of operations of many important fishing companies. Is a city with a beautiful cultural and architectonic tradition, unique in Chile. Important sites are the Fuerte San Antonio, the Museo Azul de las Islas de Chiloé, and its churches built with bricks typical from the area.
